Dymension
Start-up · Engineering data infrastructure
Fuse Intelligence. Harness Complexity. Shape Tomorrow.
I founded Dymension to build the engineering data infrastructure for complex systems: satellites and constellations, landers and ground stations, jet engines, robotics, and the missions and fleets they make up. It is where I am shaping the future of Model-Based Systems Engineering.
In the programmes that build them, every discipline, supplier and tool produces data the rest of the programme never fully sees, and decisions are made on partial pictures. Dymension connects every artifact in one knowledge graph, so that every decision is grounded in one integrated technical truth, and people and AI agents work from the same context.
Dymension was founded and incubated at ESA BIC Brindisi, the business incubation centre of the European Space Agency, and its first product, ARC, is available now.
Ontological Systems Engineering
An ontology is an engineering vocabulary: what exists, what it contains, how it connects and which rules apply. Dymension makes it the runtime language of the system model. Every requirement, component and test is an instance of one of its types, joined to the rest by typed relations instead of cross-references in prose, and its parameters are carried as values or formulas. Change one, and the model already knows what depends on it.
How it works
Complex systems change quickly, and so do the processes of the teams that build them. Dymension is built as a loop, not a pipeline: each turn moves the ontology, the methods and the model one version on, so the software keeps pace with the programme instead of freezing it.
- Define the ontology, and evolve it
- Use engineering tools, and evolve the methods
- Model the system, and ground each design choice
- Ground the engineering intelligence
The model lives in ARC, Dymension's first product: a systems engineering workspace that runs directly on the ontology. Requirements, architecture, parameters and verification stay in one connected model instead of separate documents, so the impact of a change is a question you ask, not a week you spend. Scripts, agents that work on the real system context, and variants with version control come next.
For the teams building the hardest things, software shall be the operating system of their processes.
Vision
The speed at which a team can explore its design space sets the size of the leap it can make. In space, defence, advanced energy and autonomous platforms, the standard tools of the last thirty years are enough to coordinate, not enough to compete. Dymension takes complexity off the critical path, and is built to reach past one team to a whole supply chain, from primes and integrators to their suppliers, without vendor lock-in.
